Evin Yulo's poems
A couple I wrote to read at an event. Might as well upload here but ugh, kineto is ruining the paragraph breaks. View in a Gemini client for proper formatting.

they won't let you live without one of these things,
but they dangle them out of your reach.
they say it's your fault for not trying enough,
but they don't even read your attempts.
they say you must pay for the cost of your life,
but they pay for their own by more harm.
they guilt you to waste time until you are dead,
so that you will not kill them instead.

me and my friends are as close as can be.
we trust in each other with lives,
we share with each other our crimes,
we cuddle each other to sleep.
together we battle the guards,
together we shatter the cage,
together we free the oppressed.
but there is one kind of oppressed
just one of the many who hurt
for which all my friends do not care.
i see my friends hurting these ones,
they're acting just like the late guards,
and i look away from the scene.
because if i turned on my friends,
who would i have left?
