Stockholm Syndrome is human nature
Wikipedia explains Stockholm syndrome as "a condition which causes hostages to develop a psychological alliance with their captors during captivity". (We can forgive that this is a sloppy definition because Stockholm syndrome refers to the phenomenon, not a cause of it. But we don't forgive their listing "refusal to cooperate with police forces and other government authorities" as a "key component that characterizes Stockholm syndrome".) I don't like the that name makes it sound like some unusual or pathological condition; it isn't, rather a simple consequence of emotional self-interest: *if you're going to be subjugated for the forseeable future whether you embrace it or not, it's genuinely in the interests of your happiness that you *learn to enjoy it.**
I think this explains a lot about our society, like why so few people are anarchists.
